NBA 06

"Looking for Insider Cheat Codes of NBA 06? "

Offense

Know Your Players' Strengths:-

EA makes it pretty easy on you in this regard by labelling players' best attributes with little icons.

Good outside shooters are represented by a little "3" icon, good shot blockers have a hand icon, etc.

To take the clutch three at the buzzer, you'll always want to get the ball in the hands of a dude with a 3 icon.

It's that simple. What's more, in the closing seconds of a half, your superstars will be indicated with a star under their feet.

Get the ball to these hombres in the clutch and watch the points rain down.

NBA 06 It goes beyond icons, too, into the realm of common sense. Big guys are better at dunking than little guys. Point guards are better at pulling off finesse moves than lumbering oafs.

Don't try to shake and bake using your center, or you're liable to give up the rock. At the same time, don't expect to drive the lane with a point guard versus a center and lay it up over him, because he'll block you.

Put a little thought into your players' abilities before the game, and note tendencies and successes as you get more comfortable with your squad.

Know Your Players' Range - Before the game, take a look at a player's range. Believe it or not, this is an important thing to check out, as it gives you an idea of what percentage you can expect from different parts of the court from your various players.

The most important thing to note is who can shoot from long range, and who cannot. Don't assume that your point guard will always be able to pop from the perimeter.

Careful analysis of range before a game can give you an edge. It's homework, but at least it's fun. To view player ratings in this regard, go to the Reorder Rosters segment of Team Management. Scroll to the right using the D-Pad until you reach the Range rating.More NBA 06 Tips:

Choose the Right Shoot Button - Remember, there are two shoot buttons in Live . One is a regular shot, a jumper. The other serves up either a finger-roll, layup or dunk, depending who's shooting and where he is on the court.

Make sure you aren't using the layup button from long range, or your player will lob up a sickly-looking finger-roll from beyond the arch, and no one wants that. The same is true of play near the basket.

You don't want to pull up for a J when you're a half-foot away from the rim. If you're going in for a dunk, make sure you're at least inside the foul line to give yourself a chance.

Or, if you want to be even craftier, use the Pro-Hop (as we'll discuss below), then use the dunk button.

Shoot Away!! - Remember how Live 2004 all but took away the possibility of nailing a midrange jumper? More NBA 06 Tips:

This year's game picks up where 2005 left off, where there's tougher overall defense and more realistic shooting percentages. You still don't want to try to drain one in a crowd, but if you have a little open court, go ahead and pull up.

Just make sure you're doing the things that make for a good shot--releasing at the top of the jump, setting your feet, etc.

Use the Pro-Hop - The Pro-Hop is in its second year in Live , and it's not quite as effective as last year.

However, if you have the room to utilize it, it can be an effective weapon. Do not use the Pro-Hop when close to and facing the defender. More NBA 06 Tips:

This will almost always result in loss of the ball. Instead, it's best to use it when approaching from an angle, or when you're even with (while going past) a defender.

Once you Pro-Hop, you can do several things. If you get past the defender and have an open look at the basket, go up and dunk it.

If a defender follows or steps in front, you may want to dish the ball off to someone else who becomes open when you draw the coverage.

Spin to Win - Of the Freestyle controls, the most effective this year seems to be the spin move. More NBA 06 Tips:

Sure, it opens the ball up to getting stolen more than a couple of the other moves, but since stealing isn't all that common in Live anyway, you can usually get away with it.

Spin moves are most effective when used with spry players like guards, but certain bigger men can get away with these moves as well.

Start at the top of the key, and press toward the hoop with the right analog (or C-stick on Cube) and your player will spin, and often shake the defender. More NBA 06 Tips:

Like the Pro-Hop, the spin move can be used as a way to free yourself from a defender, or can be used to draw a defender and free up other things.

Spin, then scan the floor to see if it left anyone else open.

Give Yourself Some Space - Another effective Freestyle control is the step back. This is useful if you're being hounded by aggessive defenders.

It's also kind of sneaky to use when hovering right at the edge of the three point line. Pull back on the stick (while facing the defender) and you'll take a large step back, creating separation. More NBA 06 Tips:

As soon as you complete your step, pull up for a shot in rhythm. If you can get the timing of this maneuver down, you can milk it for a lot of points.

Don't Get Blocked - Getting served is definitely not why you play the game.

Therefore, make sure you give yourself the best opportunity to make a bucket on each and every shot. There's a very simple rule in this regard. More NBA 06 Tips:

Make sure there's no one between you and the basket when you move in for a layup or dunk. If you attempt to dunk over someone, it's pretty likely you'll get blocked (unless you're Shaq on Mugsy).

If they're playing off of you even a little, it's also likely that you'll be called for a charge if you try to go over the top. More NBA 06 Tips:

If you don't have a clear path to the basket, make sure you're at least even with the defender before attempting a shot or dunk, especially at close range.

Making a defender play you from behind ensures that you have the advantage. If there's going to be a foul called on a play, and you're likely going to get the benefit of the doubt if you're past a man and contact occurs.

Back Down the Defender - The back down isn't dominant, as defenders are good at muscling back, but it does allow some of your bigger guys to . More NBA 06 Tips:

For one, if you use the back down near the outer edge of the lane, you'll usually draw another defender to you, leaving another player open somewhere. Then it's just a matter of tossing the ball over to him to drain.

If you have a decent shooter in the back-down position, another extremely effective thing to do is shoot from this position. This accomplishes a couple of things. More NBA 06 Tips:

Either it will launch an unblockable hook shot, or it will square your offensive player to the hoop for a direct shot. The closer you are the the hoop, the more likely the latter will occur.

If it does, you stand a pretty good chance of getting fouled if you don't score in the first place.

If you're getting frustrated and are unable to shake free to get an open look elsewhere on the court, use these techniques to soften up the lane, and eventually, open up other shots for your crew.More NBA 06 Tips:

Always Look to Break on the Rebound - Live 2006 is in love with the fast break, and you should be, too... especially when playing with a team that has the quickness to run it.

The second you grab a defensive rebound, your focus should be up-court. Do you have a guard streaking down the court? Is there a numbers mismatch?.

If so, hurl the ball downcourt. Since steals are down in 2006 , even somewhat risky passes should make it through, and give you an opportuinity at a lot of hustle points.

Defense:-More NBA 06 Tips:

Move With the Ball: - In some games, it's wise to play a more laid-back style of D.

But in Live, you're rewarded by following the action, and always matching up with the guy on the ball. By doing this, you should be able to stay in front of the offensive player and minimize his runs to the basket.

Make sure you spread your stance, and make lateral movement impossible, and don't be afraid to get right up in someone's grill. Pressure defense, especially against a computer opponent, is the key to Live success.More NBA 06 Tips:

Whale on the Steal Button: - The virtual refs are not too charitable when handing out defensive fouls, but that works to your advantage while playing D.

It means that you can absolutely mash the steal button and not get punished too much for it. You can also poke at the ball with the Freestyle stick, but that is not quite as effective.

Most of your steals will come when your opponent is starting to make a move. Try to swipe at the rock on his first step. The timing is a little tricky, but once you do it a couple of times, it will feel natural. More NBA 06 Tips:

Make sure you have backup when going for a steal, though. If you miss, it will take you a split-second to recover, and that's quite enough time for someone to blast past you and take the ball direct to the hole for an easy deuce.

Get Your Hands Up: - Use the Freestyle control (UP on the stick) to get your hands up while guarding, especially when defending an in-bounds pass.

Often, just having your meathooks in the air will cause your opponent to make an errant pass.

If you're ever playing a support role on defense (hanging back between a guarded player and the basket), it is a very, very good idea to have your hands up. This further cuts down the passing lane and increases the chance that you'll pick off an errant pass.More NBA 06 Tips:

Block, Block, Block: - It becomes pretty obvious when someone is making a move to the hoop, your goal on every shot is to cram it down the shooter's throat. The key to an effective block is being in front of the shooter.

This sounds simple, but it's a key ingredient that is often hard to achieve. If for some reason a player gets past you and is striding to the rack, use the last player back button to switch to the nearest defender. More NBA 06 Tips:

You should still try to block if a player gets past you, as you can sometimes swat it away from behind, but facing up is always preferable.

Stay as close to a shooter as you can. Separation means you'll be less likely to block. When a player goes up to shoot, pause a half-second from the beginning of the shoot animation, then make your jump. More NBA 06 Tips:

You don't want to be coming down on a block attempt because you jumped too early. Timing takes reps to perfect, but if you stagger your jump slightly, you'll be better off.

Don't lunge at a player when you attempt to block (unless you have some serious space to cover between you), as this will only result in a defensive foul.

Instead, jump straight up and down. If you're in the proper position, you'll execute perfectly without altering your direction while in the air.

More NBA 06 Tips:

Don't Get Fooled By the Pro-Hop:- The CPU offense loves the Pro-Hop, so watch out for that.

Often it looks like a player is going up for a shot or dunk when what he's really doing is Pro-Hoppin'.

If you commit and go up for the block on the Pro-Hop, you're going to end up sad and alone when the player takes the opening to face you. More NBA 06 Tips:

Study the movement of the players... the Pro-Hop is more horizontal and less vertical than shooting, so don't just jump at any animation.

Wait for a split second, then act. Or, stand where you are and try to draw the charge. If a player Pro-Hops into you and you're stationary, it's quite probable you'll draw a foul.

Hit the Boards: - Almost as important as blocking is rebounding. If you do a good job matching up on defense, you can be guaranteed a lot of errant shots. More NBA 06 Tips:

In order to cash in, you have to minimize the second chance points as well.

To do this, you'd better be good at rebounding. Grabbing boards is mainly about the position your players are in on the court.

Once a ball goes up, it's difficult to manuever someone into position at the last minute in order to get under the hoop and collect the rebound.

NBA 06 Therefore, make sure you have the lane packed. Once a shot goes up, switch to the player nearest the hoop... that's what the button is there for. More NBA 06 Tips:

As the ball bounces, jump to grab it at its highest point. The CPU often gives you the benefit of the doubt just by having a player close to the ball, so don't worry too much about grabbing stylish boards.

Just make sure a guy is in place, and good things will happen.
